A low-sodium food scanner

Salt is easy to under-count, because it hides in bread, sauces and things that do not taste especially salty. Yuzu turns it into a barcode scan: see the salt and sodium, and see how it drags the score down, so you can compare two products in seconds.

How the salt checker works

Scan a barcode and Yuzu reads the nutrition information. Salt and sodium feed into a 0–100 health score alongside sugar and saturated fat, so a salty product scores lower. You are not reading a table and doing arithmetic; you get one number, and the salt is part of the story behind it.

What it does not do

To be clear and honest: Yuzu does not set a personal daily sodium limit for you, and it is not medical personalisation. It shows the salt in a product and how it affects a general health score so you can compare options. If you need a specific sodium target, for example for blood pressure, talk to your doctor or a dietitian.

The rest of the label, too

The same scan explains every ingredient and E-number in plain English, with the EFSA source behind each additive rating, and colour dots (red, amber, green) for additive risk. Additive risk is kept separate from bulk-nutrient quantity, so salt and sugar are treated as quantity questions in the nutrition score, not flagged like hazardous chemicals. How Yuzu works.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app that checks salt in food?
Yes. Yuzu Health scans a barcode and shows the salt and sodium in a product, and reflects it in a 0–100 health score. High salt pulls that score down, so a salty product scores lower. It is a way to compare products quickly without doing the maths in your head.
How does the sodium checker work?
Scan the barcode. Yuzu reads the nutrition information and factors salt and sodium into the score alongside sugar and saturated fat. You see the product rated 0–100, and the salt is part of why it landed where it did.
Does the app set a personal sodium limit for me?
No. Yuzu does not set a personal daily sodium cap or give medical personalisation. It shows you the salt in a product and how it affects the general health score, so you can compare options. For a personal sodium target, talk to your doctor or a dietitian.
Can it help me pick lower-salt products?
Yes, by comparison. Scan two similar products and the one with less salt (all else equal) tends to score better, because salt drags the nutrition part of the score down. It helps you see which option is the lighter one on salt.
Is the low-sodium scanner free?
Yuzu is free to download and scan, with a subscription for unlimited scanning. You can start checking the salt in products without paying.
